Topic Eight: TV Reality Show THE CELEBRITY APPENTICE

Discussion Topic Eight (2009/11/9~11/22):

Discussion Topics:

(1) Celebrated as "The Ultimate Job Interview," the show discloses the criteria held by various enterprises in recuiting management staff.  The selection process is rigorous:  to win or to be eliminated, and the contestants have to fight their ways under great pressure to become the ultimate winner, the apprentice.  Do you think this competition process is an embodiment of enterprising spirit? Do you affirm the screening process, as portrayed in this show?
(2) This series has been criticized as a showcase for certain products that pay their way to the TV screen and as a promotion of Donald Trump himself  (and  the Trump Organization). The challenges supplied by certain enterprises usually turn out to be commercials and product placements for these companies.  By so doing, the whole show becomes a sale promotion, and the viewers are the potential buyers.  Are you aware of this practice?  Do you feel resistant to it?

An overall introduction to the U.S. TV seires THE APPRENTICE can be found at

  1. The competition creates tension and excitment, but personally I do not appreciate what happens in the boardroom discussions. The fingerpointing, firing, eliminating, and harsh criticism do a lot of damages to young people who lack self-confidence and are in need of encouragement and guidance. THe show presents business as a slaughter house, and I disagree with that. I think business can be built on alternative codes of enterprising spirit, like cooperation, originality, and helping people. It does not have to be commercialism.

  2. (1) Yeah, I think the competitions in this series do embody the enterprising spirit! It is reflect our reality pretty well. However, I am afraid that the competition between them has been too cruel. The eliminated one who took all the blames on in each episode must felt down; this might possibly causes people lose their confidences. If they do not recover from this failure in the future, it’s a sin of this series because it ruins others’ lives. Maybe what I said are just too exaggerative, but it is still possible.
    (2) The answer is absolutely yes; I do aware of it! This kind of sale promotion is widely used in films and the same situation happened in Taiwan as well. For me, it is okay that they do things like this. If the viewers could be wiser, more critical while viewing this series, they will avoid falling into the “trap” easily.

  3. Yes, I affirm the screening process because I think the screening process reflects the natural selection. The weak are the prey of the strong, that is, if you are not competent enough, you will be eliminated by the society in the modern world. Honetly speaking, I am not aware of the sale promotion in this TV series, but I do agree that the TV series is a promotion of Donald Trump himself and the Trump Organization.

  4. well...personally, i don't quite agree w/ the style of the show since it's too cruel and too sharp. i highly suspect the purpose of this show..i couldn't see the point! how could people show up being cruely criticized like that, especially being shot on the screen? however, business world is just that cruel!! but there's just no need to be broadcast like that. well, as u keep watching this show, it's nothing but a sale promotion for those companies appearing in this show and Mr's Trump's personal show.

  5. (1) Yes, I think the competition process is an embodiment of enterprising spirit. Every competitor in every task tries hard to win and to be a good leader, cooperating with each other and showing their talents. However, I don’t know whether the screening processes as portrayed in this show. Though everyone cooperates with each other during the task, those competitors always complain about others’ faults behind others’ backs. What’s more, when one of the teams loses the competition, those losers will attack their teammates violently to protect themselves against being fired, and it’s hard to believe that your partners will censure you when you lose the competition.
    (2) Yes, I am aware of the practice, and during the competitions, those celebrities always have unique strategies that I haven’t thought before. We can learn something from them and avoid doing the same mistakes as them from this show.

  6. (1) To be an audience, I have to admit that it’s really exciting to see those celebrities compete in this reality show. But if I were one of them, then I will say that I hate to compete like that. Cooperation is good, but criticism or setting others up is bad. In this show, some of them are too aggressive and profit-orientated. To be the ultimate winner, they seem will do whatever they can no matter what it takes. But does it have to be like that? I believe there are still other ways to lead to success both in TV show and in reality. Even though some of them lose the competitions, so what? They are still winners in their lives. Though the reality is cruel, one thing we can’t deny is that those who are so-called winners/ super leaders nowadays are usually those who can accept others opinions; tolerate others’ shortness; or notice and find solutions ahead. There is no need to be rude. There are other ways to create win-win situations.

    (2) It’s an unknown question whether it’s their true personality to be aggressive or they pretend to be so because of the reality show. “Fighting” is always a good method to raise people’s attentions. Some of us are crazy about this series because we know that there are always fighting in the show. But I don’t like that; for it may mislead the audience that “you can win whatever you want by being aggressive, criticizing, or even setting others up.”

  7. I don’t think everything we saw in the film is exactly what happened on the business. Although it could be natural that group members may have quarrel in their discussions or the enterprising spirit could be tense like that. However, sometimes, I think they are overreacting. I believe the harmony of business negotiation exists in enterprising spirits.
I aware the program has involved the purpose to promote Donald Trump himself and companies’ products. The program itself is the advertisement campaign. The audiences themselves chose to accept it or not to, as for me, I will regard it as an information-provided message, so I don’t resist it.

  8. (1) At first, I don’t think there is any problem with this progress in order to choose outstanding elite who should go through having competitive programs. However, from the episodes that I just watched, it seemed that everyone is trying to survive by attacking each other orally. Program managers were forced to choose two accompanies into boardroom; this is somehow kind of cruel. Having no choice, they have to. Otherwise, they would be one who is fired! To some degree, I think this somehow fits into Darwin’s theory ”Survival of the fittest”.
(2)Well, this is not my first time watching this TV series; I did have a very good impression about this series. By watching this series, it sometimes helps us to know more about some products or to have more understanding towards non-field profession. I would like to say that at the beginning of the episodes, the intention of trying to promote product or have commercials was quiet obvious. However, this time while I was watching, it drives me to feel this way. It seems that the original purpose of having this TV series has turned sour.

  9. Yes,I affirm the screening process, as portrayed in this show. Maybe it is somehow a little bit ridiculous , but on one hand it can encourage everybody's spirit up; on the other hand, it can emphasize the important points to the audiences.
I don't aware to the practice and I won't fell resistant to it because it will bring a lot of valuable treasuries to me.

I agree that the competition process is an embodiment of enterprising spirit. That's what exactly the reality world is though the show is a bit of an exaggeration. In the show contestants blame others just in their presence, but people are seldom involved in this kind of condition in the real world. It is exaggerated for good ratings.

    (2)
It is apparent that no matter in television programs or websties are full of product placements, and I think people have become inured to them. It is acceptable as long as commercials and product replacements are not immoderately shown.

After watching the show,I realize that this is not my thing. I don't think business will be like that;there are many harmony between comnapy to company. They can work together,no one says that doing business has to beat other companies down to win its own profit. Besides,I think the show is kind of fake because there are so many ads in that show, and it's not interesting at all. Of course I can understand when it comes to business, things will be more serious, but in my personal opinion,I am really not into this kind of show.

  12. (1) I don’t think it’s actually happened in enterprise’s screening process. In my opinion, this video is too exaggerated to present the whole view in the enterprise, and it’s all for the commercial. The audience likes something cruel and existing, so the video should be agree with the needs.

    (2) No, I’m not aware of watching this TV series. Through this series, we can learn more from those competitors such as their critical and logical thinking. After watching this, People should use knowledge in the right place.

  13. no, I don't affirm this kind of show, and I think it's too fake and artificial. People might encounter the difficulties in their life, and they might have been eliminated because of their work. But if people put this situation before the camera and make it a episode. I believe it's all about business, and benefits. they just want to make a show that is attracted to the audience. That's not really a competition, it's just about money.

like I said, it's strictly about business, and I believe it's not worth watching.

    (1) Yes. The competition process is an embodiment of enterprising spirit. It is like a small version of how a company works. Everyone focuses on their own job which is given by the leader. We cannot ignore any one of them because every small part is very important. We can only finish the assignment if all the people do their job well. Although on the surface, it seems that everyone fights for the company to earn more money, actually, people work hard only for their own benefit, to get a higher position and a better payment. And I affirm the screening process. Although it is kind of cruel to see people lose their job one by one, I can learn a lot from it. And I think the most important stuff that this show wants to convey is the ability of uniting a group. From the first two episodes, we can see that everyone is excellent and professional in their own field. But, what is important in a team work is to find the right person to do the right job. Group leader needs to distribute all the works down to the members. And I think that is what I need to learn now. For example, it will be easy when I need to give a personal presentation. However, it will be harder when I am going to do a group presentation. Everyone has their own opinions and thoughts. So, we will need to coordinate and find a common consensus. Frequently, we can see that the group leader will have to do most of the works because others are not so much responsible. Or it is the leader’s problem because he does not know how to deal out the jobs. And people may have fight because they always think that their idea is the best one. Lots and lots problems can be avoided if we know how to manage a group.

    (2) To be honest, I am not aware of this practice. For me, I am that kind of person who will turn to another channel when it is commercial time. The power of commercial is not so effective to me. I won’t just go to buy a good after I watch it in the commercial. I may just say that “Oh, I have seen that on TV”when I see the good on the shelf. The chance for me to try a new stuff is pretty small because I am afraid that I won’t like it. And it will be a waste if I throw it out or I don’t even use it, eat it, or drink it. Similarly, the effect of the practice won’t be that much to me. But, I don’t feel resistant to it. They are just simply doing their job. It is just that I won’t be their customer.

  15. Yes, I think this competition process is an embodiment of enterprising spirit; also, I affirm the screening process, as portrayed in this show. Everyone wants to be the winner not only for being employed by Donald Trump but also for not be a loser. We usually don’t like to fail; instead, we like to win and have a sense of superiority.

Actually I am not aware of that, I just focused on how a team defeated another one during watching the series. I don’t mind Donald Trump uses the TV series to promote himself or specific companies because I know exactly what I want to buy.

  16. This competition process is an embodiment of enterprising spirit. I don't have much interst in this show which presents us the dark side of human nature. A group of paticipants will gather to eliminate a specific paticipant in order to protect themselves. I do believe some paticipants will be eliminated because of their annoying personalities, but not their incapabilites. Also, this show also serves as a promotion of Trump's organization. Most of the competitions are nothing less than a sale promotion, which not only benifits Trump but the companies cooperate with him.

  17. <1>I don't think that the show really reflects the real world. The competitors criticize others cruelly without thinking twice. In real world, I think that most people like to speak evil of others secretly, not openly. The show is too exaggerated. But that's the reason why it attracts so many audiences. People like to watch this kind of program.
<2 >Yes, I am aware of the practice of promotion in this program. But I think that I won't be affected by the product they promote easily. 96540317 Jocelyn

  18. (1) I have to admit that it is very exciting to watch them compete. However, I believe this is still a show not the reality. If a show wants to keep people watching, there must be some attracting points which is often exaggerate or even fake.
    (2) I think I notice this part. But I think those products all belong to famous brands. I bet they've already built some fame. If people really like their products, they will just go grab it. It works the same for me. But if they are new products, I may give a try out of curiosity.

  19. 1. I have say that in the real business world, it is true that everything is about making profit and money. You are either winner or loser. However, the show is still too exaggerated. Like what Jocelyn said above, in real world people won’t criticize other in such a cruel way. Businessmen will not expose themselves in any kind of danger or disadvantage, so it is very unlikely for any businessman to do or say something really mean or unfriendly. This can refer to the famous saying –In business field, there is no true friend or forever enemy –because everything is about business. As to why this show must to be so exaggerated it is because even though this is called “realty shows”, it is not so real in the practical sense but is real in a drama sense. It must create many talk points to audience in order to create its TV rating peak, so those magnifying plots are used to bring the drama to the shows. However, I personally don’t think this is a good idea since it can carelessly bring some wrong concepts to the audience that people might buy the story and imitate the same thing, especially children. Therefore, I think it is very important for people to have the right concept before they watch this kind of program.

    2. Yes, I know those products showed up in the shows are using as the marketing strategy just like those products used in any movies or TV dramas. This is a very common and convenient advertising strategy that most of the big brands or companies will applied. By do so, viewers will very likely buy into those products and purchase them because they have been keep appearing in the shows reinforcing the great features they contain. It is similar to the technique by using celebrities as the spokesman. So many people will buy that same product which his/ her favorite star uses in the movies or dramas. However, I don’t feel resistant to this because I think as long as one is aware of this kind of marketing strategy, it is okay for the company to place their product in anywhere they like. After all, that's their mission to make more money, isn't it?

  20. The competition in this series impresses me a lot. This is the first time I watch “The Apprentice”, and now I know why it is so popular. In order to keep staying in the competition, every participant uses different strategies to be a winner. In addition, to work with people who has different opinions with you or even say some mean words to you is the hardest work to deal with in a team. How these participants use their wisdom to communicate with each other is the most interesting part in the series. Also, it is the reason why it gains popularity. Although this TV show implants some famous brand products and promote Trump’s business, they donate all the funds to the charities. Hence, it does not matter they advertise those commercial brands as the result is doing good works for the society.

  22. (1)I cannot affirm the screening process in this show. I don’t like the money-oriented philosophy or the notion of aggressively reach the goal by beating others or disregarding others. Nor can I agree with the elimination mechanism. Fist of all, concentrating on making money will lead them to be narrow-minded and won’t pay attention to the rest of the things. And this is not what leader should be. The leader should have broad vision and be able to take care of every detail, not be that nearsighted. That’s the way of success. Of course numbers, to some extent, means everything, and yet we should not put our full concern to it. Otherwise, our values will be twisted and we concern less on other things which might be important as well. Piers serves as a good example of this that we saw in the finale he didn’t win everybody’s approval. On the other hand, I always believe that Losers don’t always lose. There are chances for them to win back. Maybe they just don’t know the knacks at present, and yet it can be improved by evaluating, learning, or teaching,. That’s actually what I’ve experienced. By evaluation the losing candidate may be able to know what their weaknesses are and how they can improve. Therefore, instead of simply eliminate them, it would be better for me if they are provided another chance to work on the same project again. Maybe they would do even better job than the winning team.

(2)Yes, I did sense this practice during watching the show in that everything seems to go coincidently smooth within limited time, which made me become suspicious and doubt the credibility when watching. However, I’m not particularly resistant to it because it seems too normal for the current society. Advertisements and commercials aggressively find their shelter in various places so that it’s barely possible for people to resist it. Even if those money raised in the competition didn’t come to the charity, at least it brings the awareness to the public that there are people out there like disabled or amputated soldiers or allergy sufferers who need help. And I believe that through this platform and in this warm society, they are able to receive more help.

  23. (1)Frankly speaking, I totally can’t agree with this reality show (the first time I dislike a TV series so badly). In my opinion, Celebrity Apprentice focus on firing celebrities while does nothing more. Even though I am aware of the businessmen’s merciless war on money, I still don’t like the way Trump made the show. Trumps show no mercy on the contestants which results in my resistance of their performances. What’s more, from the first episode, you can predict who will be the winner. Also, celebrities who have defects will be amplified throughout the whole episode. Not only because of the nipping content has it provided but also the ruthless manners irritate me.

(2)I won’t be influenced by such a coarse promotion. I don’t buy Trump’s reputation at the first place, neither in the last moment. Trump assumes everything shall obey to his order yet I see no leader’s merits from such a demanding man. He did nothing but criticize. I won’t yield to a show without mercy and virtues.

  24. (1) I am not sure if the focus of the show is to embody enterprising spirit. The story seems fairly unreal to me and full of over the top dramatic exaggeration. Indeed, the contestants are all striking and try to stand out in the competition using their own ways. At first glance it looks like the show is promoting enterprising attitude; yet, I think it was more about the tactics in winning.

    (2) Yes, I somehow feel kind of resistant to the potential advertising. The show has put Donald Trump to the throne as “Trump the Great”, who is so decisive that he makes people believe it is alright to do everything just to win. I expected a person so privileged like Trump could do more than just donate money to the charity, he could have be more educational to show the importance of being righteous in business battle field. Every comment and decision Trump made was so vital that it could influence the public opinion and values. Even with great personality and virtue, the good guy still lost in the final (though he gained a lot of respect). After all, it is about business and numbers.

  25. (1)I affirm the screening process, as portrayed in this show. Only the fittest survive. In the business competition, this is very cruel. Although they should bear some hardship, you can clear to see their enterprise. The competition can inspire the competitors that if they want to win, they must reduplicate their efforts. Winston Churchill commented that “Victory--victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory, there is no survival.” As an audience, it is really exciting to watch, but to them (competitors), this is a period of trials.

(2)Actually, I notice that practice. However, I don’t feel resistant to it because it seems too normal. After all, it is the method of survival for that kind of group.

  26. 1) I would say there's half embodiment of enterprising and half not. This is called a reality show however i think the candidates followed a certain script. In business field all that counts is the result, the number and the success. However i think we have to look for the potential leader through the tests and also look for their judging and reaction. Therefore the number shouldn't be the final decision on winning.
However, this is the reality of TV Shows, they have to make this game real by also adding some spice to bring up more tension. So that the audience can get influenced by the process of the game.
Furthermore, entreprising is about your business management, EQ and leardership. Sometimes the show just focuses too much on their inter-personal opinions...
    2) I was aware of the practice of advertising. It is normal to show the product or event the product of a company which sponsored you. However the second season has a little bit overdone. They continuously advertised about the different charity, or the CD or Trace at the end of the show...I think the best way is to influence potential buyers unconciously but not this obvious.

personally, I like this series. To be a top one, this is actually a way to beat your competitors dowm. The show is excising, and we all can see the mistakes which those enterprisers make from each episode. This show also tell us that you should be carefull when your competetors around you. Because they can help you, and they can betray you also. All in all, that is really a good show to watch. Be a customer, I will buy them if i can afford.

  28. (1)I agree that the competition is an embodiment enterprising spirit. I think it reflects the society. However, I do not like the boardroom part because sometimes it seems that people just blame on others instead of admiting selves' faults. I think people should have team spirit, and not to blame on others as soon as you fail the projects.
(2)I do aware of this practice. In fact, when I was watching the series, I said to myself taht one day in the future, I must go to Trump's Hotel. I did not feel resistant to it, and I think the series broadened my view.

  29. I have seen Apprentice on Taiwanese TV channel before. At that time, I cannot understand what the series is about, so I just switch to another channel without trying to know more about Apprentice. I know it is really popular in Taiwan, but I just don’t think it will be an interesting one. However, after I watch a few episodes of Apprentice, I think it is quite a cool reality show. We, the viewers, can see different competitors have their own ways to deal with problems. Also, we can see how those competitors defense for themselves when they are probably the one who is going to be fired. Some competitors are really eloquent and brilliant. Others are not good at cooperating with his/ her teammates. Still the others are born to be leaders; they lead their members winning most of competition. Various kinds of competitors make the show much more attractive. Apprentice is really exciting because unpredictable problems occur all the time. They have to be smart enough to handle all of them well. Sometimes their solutions might work; however, sometimes they are failed. I think watching Apprentice is not only for entertainment. Viewers can really learn something from the competitors.
I am not familiar with American companies, so I don’t aware of product placements for these companies. I regard the show as a true and challenging competition.

  33. I had watched the first and second season of THE APPRENTICE during the advanced conversation class. At that time, all the competitors are normal people from different fields competing for becoming one of the employees in Donald Trump's company, so it's quite interesting to me that the competitors are celebrities in this season. I do beleive that this TV sereies shows enterprising spirit basically, but it's just on TV, you know, it's impossible for the producers not to add something dramatic and commerical promoting. Actually after seeing the second question here, I start to recall all the organizations or firms that had been the stages where all the competitors had struggled for. However, I don't feel resistant to it. Instead, I think it does add some flavor to the show because it must be weird if all the competing tasks are hold in Trump's companies though he did mention his firms a lot in the show.(His business is really broad; he even owns a modeling agency.OMG!)

  34. This is not the first time I watch this TV reality show; I have seen some previous seasons of it. For me this season is the far better one than the others for at least in this one the contestants are competing not only to win but also to raise money for charities. I do not like the harsh attitudes that are used in the boardroom such as being ruthless, forgetting about team spirit, verbally attacking or even insulting each other. However, I watch this show because there are still some good stuffs that we can learn from it, for example: some basic business concepts; the importance of being a team player, and a successful project manager; we can also see the different strategies that are used by the two teams while caring out different tasks to be creative and to win. However, I do not like some of their strategies such as striping and stealing the opponent team’s ideas.

Yes I am aware of the sale promotion, from praising Donald Trump’s organizations to making ads for other companies’ products… etc, these are all sale promotions. It is interesting to know something about these companies and organizations, but I am not affected by them.

  36. (1) I think this TV series is exaggerated and not real. In a real situation, no one will act like that. I think they should all be fired if they work in a real company. Everyone wants to be the winner. No one cares the teamwork. The process is not real, too. The reasons for Trump to fire a person are always ridiculous. He just wants to make the show attractive and exciting.
    (2) I am aware of this practice. Everything is related to Trump, and his Trump tower. I think Trump spent a lot of money making this TV series, but he made more money than he spent. 37. (1)I thought this competition process was an embodiment of enterprising spirit. Therefore, I affirmed the screening process which portrayed in this show. In the real business world, all merchant wanted to do was to get as much money as they could. Also, how they could profit everything in the process was an important issue. Through the TV series show, I thought audience earned a lot of experience. In order to knock down competitors, people had to prepare everything well because they were in a crucial game.

(2)I feel a little bit resistant of this TV series actually. Although this TV series could reflect the real situation in business world, audience must feel aggressive about how merchant use trap to attack their rivals. As far as I am concerned, I feel kind of scared because the reality was so brutal. Maybe I still needed time to adjust my stereotype about business.

  38. Basically, I think the show is realistic that it really displays the cruelty in the competitive world; however, I think there is a great portion of it is made to show how great Donald Trump is. On top of that, it emphasizes too much on luxurios lives because one prize of these games is visiting Mr. Trump's luxurious house.

  39. Yes, I think this is an embodiment of enterprising spirit. Competition means to make yourself stronger and make others weaker but not in that way they do, I think they are too aggressive in the show and they do not respect each other. No, I am not aware of doing this, because I have no interest of doing so because I think the program is all about Donald Trump and the Trump organization.

When I was a sophomore, I had watched “The Apprentice” for two semesters. In the first season, Morosa, an aggressive woman, I can say I don’t like her. When I watch the episode which is about that she is going to be fired, I was so happy. In this season, when I know that she is going to be fired again, I was happy, too.
In the season, all the job appliers were celebrities and their statue really help them to sell a product with high price. Though it may be a little ugly in the celebrity’s world, however, it’s their advantage. In this season, it’s much more like a business promotion by the fame of those celebrities. On the other hand, I thought it was also a good way to help those charities. But it’s the help from the celebrities, using in the business is quite ironic.

  41. 1.Sure I do. I affirm the screening process portrayed in this show because it’s all about business. What the celebrated participants can do was to compete with one another and try their best to stand out from others. Just as a student who wants to get scholarship to support his/her studies, what he/she can do is to study very hard to outshine other fellows instead of becoming unqualified. In business field, people act in the same way. You want to help your charity? Fine! Show me your ambitions! That’s what Donald Trump wants them to do!
2.A little bit. To be honest, I’ve fed up with seeing Mr. Trump’s face because I think he’s kind of likes to show off how rich and how successful the person he is. However, it’s undeniable that he really does great jobs at business field, both at real-estate and at marketing as well. He knows how to run his business and use his strength to support. In this sense, I pay my respect for him.

  42. No, I don’t think so. Because this only is a TV program that every plot is arranged by the director. Mr. Trump, who is a businessman, wants to make outshine in another field. In the movie, we can see a lot scene is too exaggerative and unmoral which is not the personality of those celebrities. Those persons are famous in different field that they need to have an attitude and manner; otherwise, they will not shine in their field. That is why I think all the things are want to promote Mr. Trump rather than selecting an all-round person who can be the celerity apprentice. It is all about business. 96540304 四英三 Steven

  43. Actually, I like this show because it is full of challenges and constructs with creations; somehow, I do not think this competition process is an embodiment of enterprising spirit. It is a competitive game, but there are too many commercials and product placements for this show. I affirm that it is a successful show, which produced by Donald Trump, catching audience’s attention tightly; however, I prefer watching it than appealing by the commercials foreshowing in THE CELEBRITY APPENTICE.

  44. I love this reality show very much since professor Huang used this reality show as our conversation course material. I think the biggest difference between The Celebrity Appentice and The Appentice is that celebrities have more power, more money, more popularity and more conncetions. So, honestly I don't like The Celebrity Appentice as much as The Appentice.

  45. I'm Lester 96540310. Personally, I affirm the process because I consider it reflects the cruelty in nowadays business surroundings. moreover, it provides various tasks for those contestants to prove themselves competent, just like the screening process which i would have imagined

  46. i used to be quite resistant to the show, but i was quite enjoying the celebrity one because of my "gossip" gene. the ferocious competition in the show uncover many hideous personalities which we all may encounter with someday in the workfield.
the product placement in the show does not bother me at all. for the modern society, this kind of platform is needed.

  47. I think if a competetion becomes a show, the competiton will be a performace not a real contest; just like a game for the competitor. The contestant overstated in every projects; they even used humilatory words to attack their enemies. But, some elements might happen in the realistic world; they just exaggerated the performace.

Trump is a great entrepreneur; he use his resources to create a show and became TV series, and lots of contestant must have some talents or they won't invited to the show. In my opinion, i don't resistant of it. As some concept i mention about the series, it's just a tool to make economics of the trump's business grow higher and higher.

  48. 1> I think this kind of reality show is an embodiment of the enterprise spirit, because this show has become a promotion for trump, trump his business and hisfamily. He has make the most of his show to introduced his welth and fame to the world. I've seen apprentice before, and this kind of series that combine with celebrity certainly has more attraction it has also brought more intense and explosion to this show. Moreover, i think this show has also coporate with lots of famous brand, and for us the audience couldn't ignore what was displace infront of us, this is a very successfual marketing tatics.

  49. I did heard of these TV reality show before. It’s said to be exciting, to reflect the real business world. It is true partially. About the screening process, I affirm that. However, although it somehow reflects what actually happened in the real world especially in the business world, I believe that not everything should go that way, that kind of cruel. Enterprising spirit is not entirely like that. competition is not necessarily dominated by cruel fighting.

Honestly, right after watching the Apprentice for the first time, I clearly knew that it is some kind of reputation promotion product of Donald Trump and the Trump Organization. I think seeing product placements in TV shows or movies is not really big deal nowadays because sponsoring companies will not giving money away and take nothing in return.

It is possibly appealing to someone but definitely not me.

  50. When I watch this competition, I feel that it’s really exciting to see those celebrities compete in this reality show. Be honestly, I think the style of the show it's too cruel and too sharp form the competitions, as well as the cruel competitions purpose is just as show because I think that it’s an unknown question whether it’s their true personality to be aggressive or they pretend to be so because of the reality show. However, it can show and teach us that business world is just that cruel. 96540305 Cherry

  51. It's the first time that I see this TV reality show. After seeing a short plot of it, I can't help but attracted by it. It is so excited and my feelings would rise and fall with the plots. Yes, I do affirm the screening process as portrayed in this show. I know that some people might say this show is totally commercialized. The competitions between the contestants are just like games, the organizer can plan all the situation before, and the contestants are just like actors, they perform what they want the viewers to believe. Even these assumptions are true, so what? I just want to believe what I believe. In my mind, it's a "real" reality show.

  52. In my opinion, I don’t think everything is true in the reality show. In The Apprentice, the audiences can understand it is very cruel in the business world, and every candidate should responsible for his or her performance in every task. The worst one would be fired by Donald Trump. I think the series of The Apprentice can truly improve the business and Donald Trump’s image in media, and it might be one of the advertisements for Trump’s brand, so he is really smart to think this kind of way to attract those people who seldom care about the news of business. Through the reality show, he has become one of well-known people in the world.

  53. hoenesly, i don't like this show, i think it's way too cruel, and it has too much competitions in it, i hate growing up, because when you grow up, you need to face and deal with the dark side of the world. everything wouldn't be as simple as before, things get complicated as you grow older and older each day. i don't think it's the luxirious lives, or the money that matters, what bothers me the most is the cruelity that lies behind each particular matter. by watching "the celebrity apprentice", i've learnt more about the dark sides of lives (something that i don't really wanna learn) and i don't see the points of competing so hard, you know, seeing other people fall or something like that, maybe that's because i'm not old enough, but if it's possible, i do wish i would never have to deal with anything similar to what's happening in the show.

  54. 1) In fact, I don't like this reality show very much. And I don't think it's a good material for companies to train their employees. In my opinion, after watching this show, the employees may become selfish because they want to be the best. However, the key element for a company to be successful is teamwork. With selfish employees, the companies would never earn money. What's more, the companies would face bankruptcy as well.

    2) Honestly, I think this TV series is a promotive video of Donald Trumpt as well. In my opinion, Donald Trumpt used this TV series to rise his popularity. He molded himself as a calm, wise boss in it. Therefore, I didn't feel resistant to it because I know it is just a romotive video.

  55. I do not think this show is an embodiment of enterprising spirit. What include in it are shouting, arguing, and blaming, which are not major elements in business world. The people are utilizing their fame mostly, not their business management skills. Nevertheless, I agree that they use their fame to win the competition since it is the celebrity apprentice. I think it is the arguing part that makes the show so popular. Arguing is the element that makes the audience like watching American reality shows. People seem really arguing and fighting, such as America’s Next Top Model, unlike Taiwanese reality shows. People in Taiwanese reality shows are like acting.

I am aware of the practice of product placement. I feel funny every time I identify it. Seeing those actors trying to promote the products makes me feel funny, especially when they are explaining how to use the products and how good the products are, whose lines do not fit the soap operas or the programs at all. However, I do not feel resistant to it. I think if one company of a product provides money for the programs, operas, or films, it has the right to promote the product in them.
