With Michael Jackson's sudden death in 2009, people started to look back what he had done for popular culture and began to look ahead for his possible influence on the generations to come.
In our class, we've explored various aspects of his life in the group presentation by our All Gentlemen's Team. (Please refer to the presentation handouts uploaded in the "Group Discussions" section at this website.)
We also glimpsed his talented performance as the scarecrow in his ealy musical entitled "The Wiz," released by Universal Studio in 1978. Michael's incredible body language and voice revealed the brightness of a future super star in popular music.Michael went on to have great successes in his career but he also encountered numerous difficulties facing the world that he had tried his best to entertain.

ReplyDeleteIt's so sad that the world has lost a genius! It's so unreal... He's definitely a king of pop!! He's created a load of great songs. He's the pioneer of shotting the drama in his MVs early at his time. He’s so poor that he seemed to be the money-spinner of his father and suffered from childhood abuse by his dad and brother. However, he so cared for the poor kids; he sung many songs of "love" in different aspects. He has a unique image and personal style; he always wore gloves whenever he performed with shiny costume and leather shoes. His dance techniques are unbeatable, such as moonwalk and robot. He’s indeed a legend! He’ll live in people’s hearts forever!

He was so popular that some American people even said, “You might not know President Reagan but you must know who Michael Jackson is.” He was called “King of Pop.” He brought a new generation to pop music. Long long time ago, I watched TV news which was about Michael Jackson’s; it said that he was suspected that he had sexual abuse of children. The changing of his complexion really created a buzz, too. I was greatly influenced by this news; at that time, I was not fond of him because I believed what I had been told by the news. However, later, being more mature, I realized things reported on the news might not be true. Knowing very little information about him, I didn’t know that those songs which I usually heard are sung by him. After the group presentation of our classmates, I think I am getting to know more about him. Seeing the video provided in the presentation, I figured out that the charm of Michael Jackson was really undeniable and amazing. Having read a book which introduced about Michael Jackson, I can know that the passion that he had towards music was very strong. On the other hand, being known that he contributed a lot to charity, he also liked kids a lot. Although he had left this world, the spirits and Michael Jackson trend will never disappear.

To me, Michael Jackson is a mysterious person. I think he is an extraordinary person to everyone, no matter the person likes him or hates him. The most sparkling contribution of his is he broke the racial barrier between the white and the black by music and dance. Why he is so famous is because of his great talent in music. I think the marked trait of Michael Jackson's legacy is without doubt full of suprises. Michael Jackson had been a singer since he was only five,and this job is the one and only job he had ever had, which is pretty suprising to me. He dedicated himself with his whole life and spirit in entertaining business that he had created many legends of his own including the best selling records, his signature movement--moon walk--or other signature dancing steps. All of his amazing performance had not only brought him fame and money but also countless rumors and problems. However, though being controversial, Michael Jackson's contribution on music is indelible! As the king of pop music, Michael Jackson always try to suprise his fans with various type of music and dance. His impact on the generation was so huge that it is not only universal but across racials. Despite racial identity, people from all parts of the world recognize him and his songs. I personally beliebve that everybody in this generation know or familiar wiht at least one of his songs! This is the legend that he made, and this is the legend that very few people can achieve! ReplyDeleteMichael Jackson devoted himself in the musical and show business. He contributed not only the popular music, dancing, movie, but also the donation. Although there was some unfavorable news, he still got fans’ support. His outstanding music and dance got the first place in the show business, influencing lots people of imitating, for instance the dance of firm reputation “Moon Walking”. What’s more, when there’s famine in Africa, he did the donation, and published the famous song “We Are The World”. In my opinion, the reason why he can achieve nowadays’ accomplishments is his spirit of never giving up, like what Michael Jackson said in his interview “I know the creator will go but the work survives. it's like to escape death. ReplyDeleteThe first idea comes up to me of Michael Jackson is his skin color, and this is connected to the huge contribution he made to the world. He rises the awareness of taking more concerns about black people. As most people still have racial discrimination, Michael is a model of showing people around the world how excellent a different skin color person could be. Just like the film we watched, it was the musical which acted by all black actors. I think it were a big breakthrough at that time as it meant that some people started to show their respect to blacks and treated them as normal human beings.

I think the marked trait of Michael Jackson is his passion for music. We can see that how he tried hard to make every performance a big success. Although his health condition was not very good, he worked hard on every rehearl before his concert. Through his music and life, he contributes a lot to the world. His dancing is quite different with others, moon walking, which is the most impressive part of his dancing. I bet when everyone discusses about Jackson, you would thought his dancing instead of his music, but I am not saying that his music has no influences in the world. He is also the black, who makes great influences in the music world. And I think he is great, as a black. I believe that in the time, he was not accepted by the whole American world, which was still regard the black as slave. But he did. He made people accept him, his music and his dancing.
I think the best marked trait of Michael Jackson is his sensitivity. Having experiend hard time in his childhood, though, he was strong enough to be a person he wanted to be. Michael Jackson, my favorite singer and actor. because he not only had a great contributed for music and dance, but also had supported so many charities. He made some songs to show his love to the people and the world; for example, you are not along, heal the world, and earth song. They all touch my heart. I can tell from those songs that Michael not only want to entertain people but also love people by singing.

What is attracting me most is his voice; his had bocome a singer when he was just a little. With his great voice, he sang lots of song that won universal praise, and till now, his love songs are easy to sing. After MJ became famous, he was not only a singer but also a philanthropist; he cared about animals, children, refugees...etc. What he did was really helped the world. I know not much about MJ because I was only a baby when he was at his meridian in the showbiz. Even though, I can't say that there's no contribution of him to the whole generation at all since TV news kept showing that there was so much fans of him crying for his death last year. It goes without saying that he left the milestone in the showbiz, or pop culture specifically speaking. The cutting edge of music and dancing he had made creats amazing MJ fever during the past decades. I guess he is the first one who adds shouting and screaming in R&B/soul songs, and he is the pioneer who combine songs with Poping/Breaking movements. He had impressed the whole world through his life. And most important of all, the marked trait of his legacy is courage. The courage to create new things and to go forward even though there're obstacles out there. As we know, he was haunted by scandles during his last few years. Micheal Jackson is such an influential man throughout decades, i was shocked when i saw the news of his death. he even ranks with Elvis and Beatles as the most popular, and iconic performers in the history. from my perspective, he's the pioneer of pop culture, i love his music, i remember when everyone was practicing his dance moves when i was so young, it didn't seem to be real when i knew he's dead, but i do wish people could always remember him, remember how much efforts he'd put into his works and how much joys he had brought us.

To be honest, I am not quiet familiar with Michael Jackson until I attend Vinia’s Popular culture and make the report of Michael Jackson. Before, I only know that Michael Jackson is a super star. Lots of people like to imitate him, such as moonwalk and the dance that Michael Jackson touches his important part of his body. I know some of his songs but have difficulty singing them. Also, I see lots of new reporting about his scandals. Because of those news, I have a bad impression about him. But still, I admire what he has done for the music. Only after I make some research about him, that is the report in Vinia’s Popular Culture, I get to know plenty of things that I have never know before. I get to know that those scandals are very possible not true. And I feel pity of that. I mean. Why people treat him that way? He is a genius. We should love him, instead of attacking him. From his every video, we can see that Michael Jackson devotes himself to the music, to the public, in short, to entertain people. What I see is his attitude. He has confidence and always tries his best when he is performing. He knows how to fight back when he faces difficulties. I believe that if people do not know him or haven’t seen his show before just watch one of Michael Jackson’s show, they will be impressed. They will know that he is the king of the music. That is Michael Jackson. That is his power.

I think the most remarkable contribution of Michael Jackson is his amazing choreography. Besides his vocal performance, Michael’s physical performance was even more profound. He came up with so many innovative dance moves that blew the whole world away. He is like a magician who uses his body to perform tricks and challenge human’s physical limitation. People of different generations and races have been imitating Michael’s dace moves such as his robot dance and legendary moonwalk. Michael Jackson was also a fashion icon; the boldness look of his new romantic style has freshened the audience’s eyes up. He was so different and controversial at the same time, yet still, he raised some kind of solidarity among people. The togetherness is not only within the same race or gender, but within whole human beings. The Michael Jackson craze continues in our blood, thus he never dies.

I think his great passion for music makes him a legend. There are few people who can see and dance at the same time, not mention that Michael Jackson's dance steps are difficult. I had not seen Michael Jaskson's show before popular culture course, and I was surprise that his songs and his dancing could impress me so much! Suddenly I know Why people call him "king of Pop" and why he could be so popular all over the world.

He created his own dance steps, such as moonwalk. He was a genius person. I admired his attitude toward the life. He attempted to divide his soul to his work and gave all that he had. He insisted his idea and perseveres. By the way, he also focused more on charitable foundation. I think although he was a star, he didn’t have the sense of distance with people.
