Topic Three: Beyong the human/non-human divide

Discussion Topic Three (2009/9/28~10/4):
Beyond the divide between human and non-human

Bella Swan has long desired to become a vampire to stay forever young and beautiful  so that she would be compatible to Edward Cullen.  Her goal is the fulfillment of love in both physical and psychological unity, as symbolized in the love story between Cupid and Psyche.

However, Edward has long determined to stop this "crossing-over" from happening and has tried his best efforts  to prevent and to postpone Bella's  transformation. Edward would consider  this possibility only when  Bella's life is in japerdy.  In other words,  he would inject his venom into Bella's body as the last resort to keep her alive. He wants Bella to lead a normal human life, the one he was forced to surrender in order to stay alive.

Does Edward want Bella to grasp what he has considered to be invaluable, i.e., a human life?  By so doing, does Edward impose upon Bella what he likes instead of considering what she wants? Does Edward really understand and turely feel the urgency of Bella's needs to be transformed into a vampire and to become one of the Cullens?

Let's examine Edward's motivation from another perspective. By denying Bella's request to be transformed into a non-human creature, does Edward try to urge Bella to stay what she really is and to cherish what she has in hand, her status quo as a human?

In her aspiration for becoming a vampire in order to be compatible with her love, does Bella actually let go of something that is truely essential for her existence, e.g., life with her parents and the integrity of her personality?

Can Bella re-define the word "compatibity" in love relationship?

Maybe, she does not have to go beyond the human/non-human devide in order to fulfill her love.  Maybe, Edward would love her the way she really is, i.e., to be human. To be human involves changes and vulnerability: growing up, aging, giving birth, falling ill, and eventually death.  Maybe Edward would love Bella even more deelpy simply because the very nature of her human life:  Nothing would last forever, so hold every minute dearly.

However, it is only too natural for a human female to hold "youth" and "beauty" to be the deciding factors for a love relationship to stand. Are they really the criteria for a successful love relationship?  Is this the way how love and marriage are constructed in human society?  Or, is this simply human nature?  In this sense, it is perfectly sensible for Bella to want to become an immortal and beautiful vampire.

  1. I don't think it is resonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire since this is what Bella wants. Although I can understand that Edward wants Bella to stay human and enjoy her "normal" life time instead of becoming a creature/ monster which have live on other creatures' blood forever and ever, and furthermore, being a vampire which means that Bella will be immortal like other vimpire, and it means that Bella has to bear the sadness of watching her family and all her friends grow old and die, and then force to move to other city then repeat the same thing over and over again. However, I still think it is not right for Edward to decide Bella's life. That's her life not his. I think it is very important for Edward to respect Bella's wills. Plus, i think there are some advantages to let Bella become a vampire. By doing this, not only can Bella fulfill her love but also can keep her away from some unnecessary dangers and also pertect herself. So, if i were Bella, I think I will still want to become a vimpire instead of being a human.

  3. I think it is resonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. Because he really want to protect Bella well. And from this point, all of us can know that it is about true love.
I don't think it is the a right thing or wrong thing for Bella to become a vampire in order to fulfill her love. If I am Bella, I would choose to become a vampire. But, not because I am the girl who just change for the man. That's silly. But because no matter how true this love is, all the humanity is the same. One day I would older than he,how is his feeling and how is mine? ok, he won't care but I care, I would feel strange that my man still like a boy and I become a grandmother. Oh, my God. And in this case I won't have a sense of security although he still love me. And how wouls you know that this good man will stiil being good when I get older and older?

  4. I think it's reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. Because he knows how painful it is during the transformation. On the other hand, he's also not sure whether Bella can resist the desire for blood. It's not easy for a new vampre to be well-controlled.

I agree Bella's decision to become a vampire. She doesn't want to get older and older, but Edward is still young as 17. Also, if she is a vampire, she can be stronger and protect herself better than she's human. However, I think Bella is a little selfish because she only thinks about herself not her parents or Edward.

But if I were Bella I'll make the same dicision as Bella. When you fall in love with someone, of course you want to stay with him/her "forever".

  5. Let's consider the nature of a woman's desire.

To become forever young, beautiful and healthy seems to be every woman's dream, and she believes that if she embodies these qualities it is more likely that she would be loved, cherished, and adored by the man she loves.

In other words, a woman wants to be loved by the one she loves, and she would do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Is this the goal in a woman's life when she is in love?

Can a woman see beyong this and take other important aspects in life into consideration?

In the story, did Bella ever ask herself what she wanted to be in life?

Is it enough for Bella just to stay with Edward and live a happy life together forever?

  6. I think it's quite reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from being a vampire since Bella has been a mortal for 18 years. She's been accustomed to everything around her as a human being. And there's no guarantee that Bella would get eternal happiness after becoming a vampire, so i don't think it's a wise idea for Bella to do so. if i were Bella, i wouldn't change myself for fulfilling my love cuz there're just much to be taken account of.

  7. I totally understand why Bella wants to become a vampire to fulfill her love. By doing so, she can understand Edward deeper. When you fall in love with someone, you just want to know what his world is like. She wants to give up being a human as she thinks she doesn't live in the same world with Edward though they love each other. All she wants do is to fit in his life. If I were her, I might ask the same request to Edward as being together with the one who you love is good enough. However, Edward refuses her to do so, but it doesn't mean that he doesn't want to live forever with Bella(because human will die in one day, and he won't.) He wants Bella to keep being a human as he doesn't want her to sacrifice herself. Once Bella becomes a vampire, she might have to bare others harsh opinion about her, and her family might disappoint at her. So, I think Edward makes the decision after a long consideration.

  8. i don’t agree with Edward’s behavior about stopping Bella from becoming a vampire. I think Bella knows about what she wants in her own life. Actually, I think I will understand why Edward wants Bella to live in a normal human life instead of becoming a vampire, a monster, because he knows there are so many inconveniences as a vampire. If Bella become a vampire, will she endure all those inconveniences? For example, she can’t contact with her family anymore and she can’t live in a normal life. However, in contrast, Bella will think why Edward always stops her to be much closer to him. I think Bella will feel frustrated. In the movie, Bella loved Edward so much and she was also afraid that Edward would leave her alone. I think this is the most important factor about why Bella is eager to become a vampire. By doing so, Bella can live with Edward forever without any change. Perhaps Bella is anxious, but I think she really needs to consider about the consequence. Hence, if I were Edward or Bella, I will definitely consider the future and do what I want.

  9. In my opinion, i can justify the reason why Edward doesn't want Bella to become a vampire:
    1. He first fell in love with Bella as a human, she just has to stay the way she is.
    2. He was once a human like Bella, and he definitely knows what's the sacrafice of being a vampire. Maybe he doesn't want Bella to suffer and to change her way of life just because of their love.
Maybe people think that he doesn't respect the will of Bella, but i think protecting Bella is the only way he can show his love and devotion. And also if Bella becomes right away a vampire, then the plot will not be that interesting and thrilling.

However from Bella and from a girl's perspective, it is right to become a vampire in order to fulfill her love. Staying forever with the one you love and also share the same life are what we wish for.

Actually i don't know what i would do if i am either of them. I guess this love story is absolutely melting the heart of girls around the globe because of their care for eachother. In addition, they always put eachother in the first place. Anyway, I would do as how they do in the movie. Maybe their manisfestation of love might be immature or sometimes wrong, but this is why it makes it worthwhile, because along with the story, they are mentally growing up together.

  10. I think it is reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from being a vampire because he really wants Bella live a normal life witch is different from his. It’s hard to say whether it is right or not for Bella to become a vampire. From Bella’s point of view, she probably wants to stay forever young and beautiful so that she might be suitable when being with Edward. Another reason I think of is that if Bella stays human being, then she certainly will die in the future. It’s terrible for people to watch the one they love die. Maybe Bella just doesn’t want Edward to be so sad to keep watching people he loves die and couldn’t help anything. From Edward’s view, he loves Bella just the way she is. He wants Bella to stay human being that’s what he loves-the unique Bella. And, the same reason as I mentioned above, Edward just doesn’t want Bella to watch her dearest parents die. If I were Bella, I think I will just choose to become a vampire because I totally believe in love and pursue true love.

  11. I think it is reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. Because Bella should stay what she are, and that's the exact point that Edward fell for her. And it really can't say is wrong or right that Bella wants to be a vampire. She is just want to stay forever young and beautiful, and the most important reason, to stay with Edward forever. She is in love, so she want to live her life with Edward; however, there are too much differences between them, so she definitely wants to be vampire, to be in Edward's world. And if I am Bella, I still would choose to become vampire, because that's the only way that I could be in Edward's world and forever company him. If we two are the same, then the problems might be less, and this relationship could also can carry on. Love can make people do everything, I believe what I do and dedicate myself to love.

  12. From my viewpoint, it is reasonable for Edward to do so. Being a vampire, he considers himself as a monster and then why it would be possiblefor he wants his lover to be a monster. Besides, he has no choice but to accept the truth of being a vampire but Bella can make her own choice. Moreover, I think that Edward fell in love with Bella some might due to the fact that Bella is a human being, she can do some Edward can't, she has this attraction for Edward.

I don't think there is right or wrong answer. Being a lover of Edward, who is outstanding, handsome..., Bella of course wants herself to comapre with Edward and stand at the same position and I think that's the reason why Bella wants to be a vampire.

I can make a change for my lover but I can't make such a huge change as Bella will do in the future. There is always someone waiting for you somewhere in the world...

  13. It is reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire, because Edward knows how sorrowful of being a vampire. Although he is strong and powerful, he can’t stay under the sun, he can’t make friends with normal people. What’s more, can you stand that your parents and siblings are getting older and older, but you stay young forever and even have to accept the crucial fact that all of them would leave you someday? I think those reasons might be Edward’s thought. He doesn’t want Bella to suffer such pain.
I think Bella really loves Edward deeply, therefore; I will support her choice, but I would ask Bella to be responsible for her decision.
Actually, if I were Bella, I would make the same decision as her. Of course everyone wants to accompany with his/ her lover forever, but the first question is that do I really love him/ her? If I am sure that I won’t change my mind and I can endure the life without the sun, I would choose to become a vampire.

  14. Personally, I would say there is no right or wrong about love, either the love between Bella and Edward. I perfectly stand for their love. For me, Edward’s love touched me very much. It’s really hard for him to endure his desire, the desire to drink Bella’s blood; however, he could stand it and protect her from becoming a vampire─ture love. From this film, I can feel how great the love can be between a vampire and human, and how strong it is It’s absolutely worthy for a person to find his or her ture in the entire life. If I were Edward, I would do the same as in the movie. He chosed not to change Bella to a non-human and saying, “Isn’t it enough to spend your life with me?” This meant that he doesn’t care the youth and the beauty of Bella, but he only care the love for her. Furthermore, if i were Bella, I would choose to spend some of my life with him, and later become a vampire.

  15. of course it is reasonable and is understandable but still i don't think anyone has the right to limit others the things they wanted to have or, in this case, the kind of situation the girl wanted to be in. Love is blind as we all know, and if she wants to become a vampire, so be it, there's nothing wrong with it, as long as that's the decision she made herself. If i were Bella i would ask Edward or other Cullens to bite me so that i could become one of them but if i were Edward i would probably make her stay a normal human being.

  16. I think it is reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. Edward loves Bella, so he wants to protect her. Once Bella becomes a vampire, she can not live a normal life. Edward doens't want her to live as painfully as he does.
However, if i were Bella, i am willing to become a vampire to live in Edward's world. I love him, so i wish i can stay with him forever.

  17. Answer 1:
I think it’s reasonable for Edward to Bella from becoming a vampire because he doesn’t want Bella to miss any precious procedure of being a human being; for example; at the last part of the movie, Edward asks Bella to go to the prom with him because he doesn’t want her to miss her first prom in her life. Eve though to be a vampire can have a endless life, Edward knows that his appearance and age will never change; for example, he has to study in different high schools again and again, receive diploma graduations, put them on the wall, and make it as a private joke. I think he loves Bella not only because her is a human being which he also wants to be but also he wants her go through every steps in a human life.

    Answer 2:
In Bella’s position, I think it’s the right thing for her to become a vampire in order to fulfill her love because she loves him very much.

    Answer 3:
If I were Bella, I wouldn’t want to become a vampire. Edward already said that he doesn’t want Bella to be a vampire because he knows that how precious to be a human being. To be a vampire can live forever and stay young, but I prefer to be a human being. Be a human being, I can eat lots of delicious food and fall a sleep; I want to feel how happy I am when eating yummy food.

  18. I think it is not reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from being a vampire. I know Edward has his concern that Bella still have the choice. He actually did not have the choice so he would like her not to be a vampire. I think it's just like our parents. They always want their children to do what they can't do before and stop them from what they didn't want. However, I believe Bella is a separate individual, she could choose what she wants as long as it is under cautious consideration. I believe if I were Bella, I would try to negotiate with Edward. And if I were Edward, I would try to listen to her and would never say anything if this is the really choice.

  19. 1.I think there must be some reasons that Edward doesn’t want Bella to become a vampire. Being a vegetarian vampire is harder than normal vampires. They need to endure many things. They have to keep themselves from having humans’ blood. Also, they have to worry about their identities. They have to hide their real identities. If their real identities reveal, they may be in trouble. The image of vampires are very scary and evil, so they won’t be accepted even if they are vegetarian. Therefore, I think Edward is very considerate that he doesn’t want Bella to be suffering like himself.

    2.
I don’t think that Bella needs to become a vampire in order to fulfill their love. If Edward really loves her, she doesn’t have to worry about whether she is a human or a vampire. If it is true love, they can break the obstacles between a human and a vampire. Also, it is no need to care whether the time that they get together is long or short. It is more important that whether it is true love or not. Even if they just can get together for fifty or sixty years, it is enough. Although Bella cannot live as long as Edward, the memory for both of them will stay forever. The memory becomes eternity.

    3.
If I were Bella, I wouldn’t get together with a vampire. I am a kind of rational person. I will think clearly before I get together with a vampire. I think date with a vampire may get myself into a trouble. Therefore, even though I like a vampire very much, I don’t want to put myself into a dangerous condition. So... Sorry, Edward.

  20. 1. In my opinion, it’s really reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. First of all, Edward knows how painful it is when becoming a vampire. One should control her thirst for the blood. Second, once become a vampire, you will have an everlasting life. No friends and no usual life, one will become lonely.

    2. If Bella can take control about those bad effects of being vampire, I will definitely agree Bella to become a vampire. However, if I were Bella, I will take a thought. It’s not sure that love will be forever. Once the couple don’t love each other any more, how can they face the future life?

  21. I think I understand why Edward stops Bella from transforming into a vampire. He loves her because she is a human. He wants to protect her because she is fragile. Her scent of human allures him. If she transformed into a vampire, she would lose all these things. For Edward, what he really likes is the original Bella.

If Bella really transformed into a vampire, would she become accustomed to the immortal life soon? Would her be a “vegetarian” like the Cullens do? Edward is afraid that Bella couldn’t control herself. Also, Bella has her own family. Would her father and mother accept that she becomes a vampire now? Though she could become immortal, she has to face a lot of new difficulties. Maybe she should stay what she is until the transformation must be done.

If I were Edward, I would let Bella choose what she wants. If she wants to be a vampire, that’s what she chooses. Edward and she should take the responsibility together.

  22. For Edward, I think he is considerate to Bella instead of imposing what he wants on her. Considering Bella is alive and has her normal parents, he doesn’t want to be selfish to take her away from her parents. That would be cruel. Hence, he chooses not to change her into a vampire unless something threatens her life. I take it as an act of love. On the contrary, Bella is a little bit selfish. For her own desire, she seems totally forget her parents, who would be really sad to see their own daughter become a vampire.
And if I were Bella, I would choose to keep the status quo. I still have my own parents, and Edward loves who I am. Then there is no rush to become a vampire. Besides, Edward isn’t that skin-deep, I believe what he treasures is not only how I look but my kindness, my mind and everything. Even though I become an old lady, I guess our love would conquer the difficulties. So, just let it be.

  23. I could understand that Edward disapprove Bella's decision is out of his protection of Bella. First, we can find that Edward always see himself as a monster from the movie, so I think it can explain why he wants Bella to be a human. Second, as a man, Edward definitely couldn't understand Bella's fear of becoming older while her lover stay young. Stay young is always women's desire. I think it is reasonable for Edward to disapprove Bella being a vampire if I see things from his angle. But of course I stand on Bella's side.
I think it's right to become a vampire for love. I mean, if I have the chance to stay with my lover forever, I would grasp the chance. I tihkn if both of us become older, it's acceptable, but if only one person get older, it could be unbearble.
If I were Bella, I would choose to become a vampire. As I said, it is unbearable for me to become older but my lover stays young. Even though he will still love me when I become a old woman, I think I will doubt about this. If I were Edward, I may not want Bella to become a vampire, but I will submit myself to the desire of stay with her forever at last.

  24. I think it is reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. As a vampire, Edward must how terrible it is. It’s very painful to control one’s desire, especially facing the one you love. In addition, Edward views himself as a monster. He doesn’t want to Bella suffer the difficult life. Everyone should experience death. It’s the circle of nature. Also, Bella has the right to experience each stage of life.
On the other hand, Bella can choose her own life. I think Bella must make up her mind becoming a vampire to fulfill her love. I admire her courage. How brave she is!! Giving up the normal life to become a vampire needs not only courage but also love between each other. I think Bella is responsible for what she does. I believe that no matter what difficulties they face, Bella and Edward can overcome everything based on love.
If I were Bella and Edward, I might do what they do. I think it is very hard to meet the Mr. Right. Once meet the true love, I don’t want to give up the love. Although becoming a vampire, I can’t experience the nature principle of life. But, it’s very blissful to be accompanied by your true love.

It's really a hard decision for Bella to make, also for Edward.I could understand that why Edward doesn't want Bella to become a vampire as well, because it might be dangerous for her,if she becomes a vampire like him,she might not be able to control herself to eat people's blood. But on my opinion,I think for Bella it is a good thing,if she becomes a vampire, then she doesn't have to worry about the age thing between Edward and her.If she was a vampire, she could be with Edward forever and ever, that would be awesome to her, since she loves him so much...Her love to Edward makes her become a brave person who fear of nothing anymore. If I were Bella,I would choose to become a vampire as well, because I can't stand it if i couldn't be with my lover due to the death.

  26. I think it's difficult to say that whether it is reasonable or not. Of course we can understand why Edward doesn't want Bella to become a vampire like him for he longs for being a normal human and having a normal life. But Bella is a human, that's impossible for her to live forever. Though Edward wants Bella being a normal human to enjoy her human life, he still can't accept Bella's dying as she gives birth to a baby. I mean human will face death definitely and it is a part of human life. But he didn't let it happen.
Edward and Bella love each other. I think to make Bella become a vampire it's the only way for them to be together. Since Bella will be in danger as a human when she's with Edward and Cullens. She's like a yummy dish in front of other non-vegetarian vampires. Bella and Edward want to be together and then Bella must to be a vampire.

Besides if I were Bella, I would have the same desire what Bella has and that is to become a immortal vampire being with Edward forever.

  27. I think it is resonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. Edward is a person who has had that experience. He knows how hard to become a vampire. If Bella becomes a vampire, she needs to have a courage to live without her family and friends. It's cruel. So, Edward wants to make her live a normal lif. Although he knows how much she loves him, he also knows she attaches importance to her family very much. And then I think it is the right thing for Bella to do to become a vampire in order to fulfill her love. Every lover always wants to live with their mate forever. They also have a idea to come together through thick and thin. And I also think if Bella doesn't become a vampire, she should bear the sadness of watching herself gets older and older but Edward always stays young. If I were Bella, I would make the same decision as Bella. It's so hard to leave my lover.

  28. Q1.
    Ans:
Personally, it’s somehow unreasonable to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. Frankly speaking, it’s obvious that Bella devotes herself to this legendary romantic affair. She ignores her safety when revealing Edward’s true identity; she dares to face the vicious vampire alone when she is aware of her mother’s potential danger. Several times had Bella risk her life to prove that she is not a coward in love. Can’t Edward such a smart man understand how hard Bella was trying? So I can not totally agree with Edward’s consideration even though Edward’s concern of not turning Bella into a vampire is based on Edward’s past abundant experience.

    Q2.
    Ans:
Sure. Finding your own Mr.Right is already difficult; now that Bella has already came across Edward, there is no reason for Bella to give up her love! Why shouldn’t Bella seize the chance to be with Edward forever? I completely agree with Bella’s decision!
Bella’s strongest desire is to be with Edward, no matter the effect of time or the risk of becoming a monster or the result of being abandoned by her mortal friends or even the danger of being hunted by those who hates vampires can not withdraw her decided mind. In fact, being a woman with such a determined mind is admirable. Her faith in love and her strength in guarding it is something fading away in nowadays. I definitely support her being with her lover eternally.

    Q3.
    Ans:

If I were Bella, I would most likely to ask Edward to turn me into a vampire like him. But to resist the urge for human’s blood as well as to be faithful to one man with my eternal life is really challenging. However, being a vampire with endless time and staying young and healthy is a fantasy that many people had dreamed for. I say: Grasp the chance! At least I am able to keep my lover company.

  30. I think it is reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire, because Edward understands what it is like to be a vampire. Bella, as a human- being, doesn’t know the agony of being a vampire. Edward has said that he is a monster. He does not agree who he is, so it is not hard for us to think why he does not want Bella to become a vampire. He wants her to live as a normal person and to experience the colorful life.

I do not think it is right for Bella to become a vampire in order to fulfill her love. She has to consider thoroughly about the future. She has to give up so many things in life in order to fulfill her love. I think she might regret after becoming a vampire.

If I were Bella, I wouldn’t want to become a vampire. I would try to let go of my love towards Edward.

  31. In my opinion, i think Edward didn't want her to suffer the same pain just like himself. they be treated like wierd and hated by wolf. it's not easy to be a vampire.

Women like to do thing without considering consequence, but there's no wrong with Bella to become a vampire; because she love Edward. She was dangerous as a human, so she wanted to be a vampire to protect herself without him. But... i think Bella should consider what her parents' thought bout this issue.

if i were Bella, i would be a vampire. i want the endless love for us, and i want as young as what i am now. i don't my lover watch me died and cried for long even if i were a human. So i suport that Bella should be a vampire.

  32. I think we have to first know something about vampires before we do the discussion. First, as a vampire, blood , instead of meat and vegetables, is the only source of your food . Second, you're kind of away from "human" because of your lifestyle, eating habit, and because of your abnormity from others around you! Third, you never get old, and of course, never die which most people would love to be but would feel bored and annoyed (since there seems no end…). In this sense, from the perspective of Edward, he would no doubt disapprove the decision which Bella had made. Once you become a vampire, there’s no turning back. It might be okay for Bella because she is deeply in love with Edward. Love is irrational. Edward knows it. Therefore, he has to be the one of the two who stays rational and makes the best choice for Bella. That’s why he stops Bella from being a vampire. As to Bella, she loves Edward; thus, she hopes to be with him forever, and the only way to make it is to be a vampire. She desires a sense of belonging, and being a vampire helps to fulfill her desire. That’s why I would say if I were Edward, I would do the same thing, and if I were Bella, I would make the same choice. There’s no right and wrong, but love.

  33. No matter what kinds of decisions that Bella or Edward chose, it would have their reasons. Edward did not want Bella to suffer his experience, and Bella wanted to be with him forever and ever. For Edward, he did not have the right to stop Bella from becoming a vampire, but he had his right not to make Bella to become a vampire; for Bella, she had her right to become a vampire in order to fulfill her love, but she had to ponder her family and her future. If I were Edward, I would choose the same decision as possible as him; if I were Bella, I would sink into a dilemma and would be completely hesitated.

  34. Actually both Edward and Bella are not reasonable since they are having a relationship beyond the ethic. It should have not ever happen. Not that nothing can stop their love from growing stronger. Edward thoughtfully chose to be the relatively more reasonable one in their relationship.
Their love grows stronger because they might lose each other. This made them to cherish every minute they got because their time has an end in sight. As the end comes closer, they love each more. So I think Bella need not and should not sacrifice herself to transform.

  35. I really love Twilight very much. First, I think it is reasonable that Edward tries to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. He doesn’t want her to become the same with him. Like he says, “I am designed to be a machine of killing people. I am a monster.” So, Edward doesn’t want Bella to become a monster. He thinks that they can get along and have a happy life without Bella being a vampire. However, Bella doesn’t think so.

  36. Q1. yes, I think Edward should stop Bella from becoming a vapire, cuz he knew that it's a kind of suffering for being a immortal. You just watch your parents, friends, lover die, and there's nothing you can do. you gain nothing but pain if you becoming immortal.

Q2. no, I don't think it's a good choice to becoming a vampire in order to live with Edward. Although you gain the power and endliess life, you have to suffer for watching your own friends die before you. You live for hundreds of years and you don't have any purpose. being a human, we should have a normal life like everybody else. you live, you breath, you love, you eat, you cry, you laugh, you pain, you lose, you gain, just like everydody else. That's what human do, and that's how to be a real human. living like that, we can know how to cherish our limited life.

Q3. if I were Bella, I Would chose to love Edward as a human, and I would love him until the day I die.

  37. For me, Edward should not stop Bella from becoming a vampire. In my opinion, to keep their relationship still, Bella should become a vampire. Lives between human being and vampire are thoroughly different--what they eat, what they live, what they do, what they think, are so much different, and that’s why Edward wants to leave Forks and her. Maybe both of them are willing to make a concession at first, but that may because of the freshness that they’ve just known each other for a short time and they’re curious about each other, just like what we would do when we first met someone. However, winning people’s love at present doesn’t guarantee the same thing happen in the rest of the life, let alone in the movie Edward wants to leave Bella. In addition, even if Edward would concede to Bella at first, I don’t think he will keep conceding in a long run. Just like sometimes we would heard that men before and after their marriage are different. In this case, once Edward has won Bella’s heart, he may stop conceding or giving in eventually, or making decision for Bella. Therefore, if I were Bella, I would choose to become a vampire.

  38. Q1 YEAH! I think that it's his responsibility to prevent Bella from being a vampire. Because that if u are a vampire, you cannot eat, drink, sleep, even act like a normal person. It will lose happiness when you do anything. you can only live of blood, and that's perthetic.

Q2. I don't agree with that. That's not love. A true love is that we should care about each other, and we would support each other whenever we met problems. No matter what, we wouldn't abandon our lovers. You can't turn her into a vampire just because your own desire. Never!

Q3. I would die for Edward, cuz I love him so much that I can't bear to see him suffer the pain of watching me die. So I would like to die before Edward.

  39. I think it is the right thing to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. I think Bella should be the person she originally is. If I were Bella or Edward, I would remain each other as their original species.

  40. Undoubtedly, Edward’s been very protective toward Bella. Though sometimes he seems to be rather possessive and manipulative, I guess that is because Edward is much older than Bella (don’t forget he’s been seventeen for quite a while). Ed is like an older brother (or even father?) in some ways, trying to protect his young and fragile sister from the evil deeds, which mostly refers to the non-vegetarians of his kind. Regarding to his bitter and lonely vampire life, E does not want B to go on the same route but wants her to experience a normal human life and enjoy every moment as a mortal being.

On the other hand, B’s wish of becoming a vampire is immature. Becoming a vampire is not the only way (or, the guarantee) to be with Edward. I am not sure if her desire of transformation is driven by a passionate fad or a thoughtful decision. However, there are a lot of responsibilities we have to fulfill in real life as well, no matter being a human or a vampire. In the movie, B is distanced from the other students in her school, and living in the new environment with her not-so-close dad makes her life even tougher. As a result, when she falls for E, he becomes the shelter and best friend, with whom she shares a same sense of isolation and mystery. So, blame not on E for being controlling over his girlfriend, for she is also a dependent and insecure beauty (that’s why they are such a perfect match!).

I really don’t know what I would do if I am one of them. But I could imagine myself struggling between what I want to do and what I think I should do. Should I follow my passionate emotions? Or should I just live an ordinary life? Wow, it’s much easier to judge than to make decision, right?

  41. I think it is reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from being a vampire. In this moment, I don’t think Edward is forcing Bella to do something that she does not want to do. Instead, Edward wants Bella to think carefully before making this big decision because she can’t change back to human as soon as she becomes a vampire.

I think it is ok for Bella to become a vampire. Even if at the end, she and Edward does not work out. She is a vampire now. She has more time to search for her Mr. Right. But if she does not become a vampire, and after she is forty and becomes so old, it will be too late. To face the reality, it is possible that Edward won’t love her anymore. Or, Bella will feel that she does not fit to Edward this young and charming man anymore.

If I were Bella, as I have said, I would choose to become a vampire. I cannot see any shortage of it now.

  42. It makes sense to me that Edward stopped Bella from becoming a vampire. How can he just see his beloved one to experience the pain as him? He deeply knew how hard for her to survive the process. Likewise, Bella was no wrong choosing to becoming a vampire. She wanted to live forever with him, to accompany him with the happiness and sadness. The love etched in them, leading them to male these choices. For me, it's understandable.
Actually, I don't know what I would react cause I am hard to imagine this thing would happen to me.

  43. bella wanted to become a vampire so that she and edward can have a physical relationship which edward keen to avoid since bella was a human...
so i think it's quite reasonable for bella wanting to become a vampire since her hormonal system still working...
i also think that edward's decision to make bella remain as a human is quite sensible...
there was alot to give up to become a vampire, most would not choose to change themselves into a vampire..eg Rosalie..
so edward was worried that maybe bella would regret becoming a vampire after she became a vampire..
and also because edward believed that they are soulless and he didn't want bella to be the same...
    if i'm bella/edward,ummm..
i think i will just stick to the choice like what's in the story..
    anyway, interesting topic..
    great job..

  44. 1.Do you think it is resonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire? My answer to this question would be yes, because it's terrifying to become an immortal and I think edward knows that. He wouldn't want bella to suffer the pain that he has endure for centries. After all, having a human girlfriend is very different than what a vampire would usually do.
2.Do you think it is the right thing for Bella to do to become a vampire in order to fulfill her love? Yes, bella truly desires to be with edward for all enternity,he is the Mr. right for her, what surprises me the most was when edward rejects bella, and bella didn't get mad at him. Normally, girls would think that edward has other plans when bella ages.
3.What would you do if you were Edward and/or Bella?
If i were Edward, I would certainly turn bella into vampire, it's hard to survive when you're being hunted by other vampires, especially the moment edward is not around. She needs a solution to live on her own.

  45. 1. I think Edward's reason for wanting her to stay human was to tell her he would "love her at any age”.

    2. I don’t see that it is the right thing for Bella to become a vampire. I think even though Bella become a vampire; she will be the same old Bella just with more confidence and power. But if there was a way that Edward could become HUMAN I would prefer that. The love between both of them is very strong and Bella don’t need to become a vampire to fulfill her love.

    3. If I were Bella I would not think the way she thinks because I want him to have a good memory of me in our life together. It will be so boring to have endless life.

  46. 1.I think it's quite reasonable for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire because from this we can see a true love. Edward wants Bella's blood so bad but he choses not to transfer her into a monster like him.
2.I don't think it's right for Bella to become a vampire to fulfill her love. How about those who love her? Is her love for Edward way more important than the family affection?
3.If I were Bella, I wouldn't change myself. I would live a happy long life with Edward, and till the end of my life journey, die in the arms of him. It's also romantic, isn't it? I think it's not necessary to transfer myself into another race to assure my love. Furthermore, Edward turned his longing for Bella's blood into a crazy affection; how can we guarantee that Edward would still feel the same passion after Bella's transferring into a vampire?

  47. I think Bella is just still confused by her own life. Her mom is far away from Bella and is occupied by her own love life; her dad, just like her dose, is used to keep the world at a distance; Bella is far from her familiar hometown and she has no close friend. Bella is lonely and helpless, so loving Edward become her one and only purpose and motivation for life. I can understand the need for being protected and loved, Bella is just too afraid to BE HERSELF, to BE DIFFERENT from her love one. It is reasonable to me that Bella wants to become a vampire, but Edward’s insistent rejection is just the SELF-DOUBT of his love for Bella. I think Edward is scared to make Bella a vampire because he is not confident that he can stop himself again from sucking Bella’s blood, and because he cannot assure himself that he will love Bella without her uniqueness of being a normal human.

  48. I am not eternal, so I don’t know that kinda feeling. To see things change and change, people around pass and pass. I believed this kind of feeling is excruciating. If I were Edward, I would do exactly what Edward do. I have already lived for hundreds of years, so I know eternal life is miserable and horrible that I will not let my beloved woman to suffer this kinda pain. Every one who is in love will do something crazy, I think it’s nothing to do with whether it’s right or wrong that Bella want to become a vampire to live with Edward forever.

If I were Bella, I will choose to become a vampire to live with Edward forever. Once I decide that is the msn who I love, I will try my best to let him happy, and I want to be with him forever. As a vampire, there are dangerous things around him, and if I am just a human being,I don't have the power to pretect myself. That will let me feel useless for myself. So I will want to be a vampire.

  50. In my opinion, since Edward wants to be a human being, it is reasonable for him to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. Besides, I thinks Bella shouldn't change herself into a vampire because of Edward. It may become a burden for Edward. He may feel sorry for Bella's parents. Because of him, their only daughter loses the chance to see them anymore. When they are dying, Bella can not take of them as well. It is very cruel to Edward and Bella's parents. Therefore, if I were Bella, I would not change myself into a vampire. True love exists no matter how old I am and what my appearence would change. Besides, I believe my decision would make Edward feel very happy as well.

  51. I remember Edward had ever said that he likes the smell of Bella’s. Maybe, Edward wants to keep the smell of human Bella. This might be one reason, I think. On the other side, Edward dislikes himself to be a vampire. This might be another reason for him to let Bella staying in human.

They are afraid to change. It must be a tough answer in order to choose the best to keep their love. As my point of view, I think staying in human is a better choice. Since Edward really likes this way, and if Bella trust him, the two still can love by their inner beauty over the outer appearance. It makes me think of a movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Maybe their love could be like that.

If I were Bella, I would ask Edward to make me become a vampire so that I can be with him ever and ever till we die.

  54. <1>I think it's reasonalbe for Edward to stop Bella from becoming a vampire. He is such a considerate guy that he does't want Bella to live a abnommal life. Vamipires don't need to eat and sleep. Bella may not get accustomed to it.
<2>Although Bella has her own right to become a vampire to fulfill her life, I still think that it's not a good idea for her to do so. She really should think twice before doing everything. What if she regret? And whwat if she finds that she can't get used to vampire's life?
