In the French musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet (2001), William Shakespeare's original story plot retained its overall structure but some of its specific features were stressed and emphasized, especially in the psychological exploration of each major character--through touching songs and acting-- and in the personification of the role Death, or Destiny, played in this tragedy--through silent body movements and facial expressions of a female dancer.

A Trip to Verona
On her trip to Italy, my sister Sophia Huang went to Verona to take a look at this legendary but fictional balcony of Juliette's. Here is the postcard she bought me. Romeo's family mansion is still standing in ruins but no many people go visit there inspite of its authenticity. It seems that a majority of people care about the love between Romeo and Juliette, instead of just Romeo or just Juliette.
My reception of the musical: Songs and dances help the characters in the play articulate their thoughts and define their individual positions in the plot.
I. On the psychological exploration of each major character--through touching songs and acting
The actors and actresses recuited into this musical emdody both acting and signing talents, and the dancers' performace presents both modern and classical features. In addition to these, the songs composed for each actor/actress to be delivered on special occasions serve as magnifiers or probs that disclose the secrets hidden in the depths of individual soul.
The songs that impress me most are
(1) the Nurse's song entitled "And Now She Is in Love," which reveals the Nurse's deep concern for Juliet's happliness and her jealousy toward Juliet's mother,
(2) Lord Capulet's song entitled "Having a Daughter" ("Avoir Une Fille"), which shows the deep and possessive love a father has for his beloved daughter and sbsequently the daughters of other people, and most of all
(3) "All for Love" ("Aimer"), delivered by Romeo, Juliet, and Brother Laurent at the alter upon the couple's wedding ceremony.
Through the performance of the songs, which involves voices, lyrics, and body language, the inner world of each character was open to the audience. I felt so much touched, especially as a parent, by their abililty to love and to articulate this emotion.
Other songs in the musical also informed me about each character's mental state in relation to his/her family background, e.g., Tybalt and Mercutio, and this understanding helped to clear the path toward understanding the development of the drama. Against the corrupted background of Verona, each individual still kept a devoted and loving heart to his/her beloved. However, this very loving heart at the same time was capable of doing extreme harm to its rivals. The heart isa double sword: It can kill and cure at the same time. Can a killing heart be cured? The answer is love, "aimer."
The melody and lyrics of "Aimer" are loaded with aspiration for love and beautiful prospect in love. (I will transcribe the lyrics with Chinese translation as soon as I find time. Please wait!) It appears to me that young hearts would rather stop living for love than living without love, whereas aging hearts stop loving to endure a lifeless life. This view is much celebrated in the context of Romeo and Juliet, where hatred filled every cornor of the community and the resort adopted by the couple to counter this omnipresent hatred was love.
In that context, the couple was channelled to face death and each of them was given the right to choose between "to be" or "not to be." When Romeo saw Juliet's motionless body, he could just turn away and run for his life. Likewise, after the wakening, Juliet could ask for understanding from her parents and go on with her life. However, both of them chose to exchange love with their lives: For them, that's the only way to fulfill their love in that situation. It's apparent that the value of love was placed higher than that of life. Their choice for life was the path of love.
Do I personally agree with their choice? Don't forget that they lived in a fictional world. In reality, with a passionate heart that still feels and aspires, I would look for a solution--mostlikely, a compromise, and as an adult with children I have more important concerns. The secrets to break through the mist is "excahnge" and "choice."
Life is full of transactions of many kinds, and we have to strike a balance. There is a balance scale in life for us to measure exchanges, and the pivot point changes positions in different stages of life. It depends on the weight you put on the value you are holding at that juncture. It is a choice, and we have to choose wisely, taking into consideration of the voices from the head and the heart. The prerequisite is self-understanding and an open heart.
There is a minor character observing all the events in this musical, i.e., the poet (Juliet's friend), who presumably wrote down the whole story, and there is Romeo's friend Benvolio, who stayed alive through all these ordeals. They had a big picture of the whole story and they had the chance to experience more of life. Although these two roles were not on the center stage, they presented an alternative stand in life. They were there on the background for us to spot. Do you see them?
There are times when these minor characters would loom into big figures. Before then, get prepared and live a meaningful life. (In other words, let's study hard and learn to think independently with creativity!)
II. On the personification of the role Death, or Destiny, played in this tragedy--through silent body movements and facial expressions of a female dancer.
In this musical full of touching songs, Death (or, Destiny) was the only one character that remained silent yet powerful all way through. Personified as a female dancer with minimum draperies, this character "spoke" through her body language and her moves were terrifying and uncountable: to snare Tybalt and Mercucio in her arms to endow them with death, to blow a death breath into Romeo's mouth to end his life, and to hand Romeo's daggar into Juliet's hand to initiate her suicide.
The omnipresent power of death was embodied in these movements, and the psychological effects were powerful. I think all living creatures possess this instinct of death approaching. It's a common experience for all to stand vis-a-vis Death, and none of us can outwit him/her for long.
So, let's cherish every living and loving moment in life!

i think the music were so great that i was going to ask vinia to lend me the dvd, but i didnt, so yeah, anways, it drew my attention from the very begining, not only did i get to watch the story once more but also i was able to listen to such a great group of people singing while performing with actions and dances, it was not easy, and i think that's what impressed me the most in this musical. in addition to that, i think french people did a great job acting out the inner world of those main characters, they added this "the goddess of destiny" since the opening,of course, the goddess did not actually talk to them, but it somehow shows the audience how these characters were all trapped in their own fate, and how their own fate led them closer and closer to the tradegy in the end.

(1)I think one of the effects is that the tight plots of the musical impress the audience deeply. When one of the roles is singing, there are also many dancers dancing around to match up the plot of the play. The audience can not only enjoy the songs but also the elegant or wild dances. The audience can strongly feel the emotions of the singers by their powerful voices and their acting. The other one effect is that people would find the magic of music charm the audience. Since we are used to see movies or read novels to know a story, instead of seeing a musical. Though those beautiful songs in the musical, we can enjoy the melodies, also knowing the developments of the story. How amazing it is! I think the musical adaption attain these two effects.
ReplyDelete(2)I like this musical, because I think the players are really good at singing. Though I don’t understand the French, I am touched by their beautiful and powerful voices. I also like the lyrics of the songs, so romantic and touching. In addition to the songs, the roles in the play also appear my attentions. First, the dancers dance so hard to express their passionate to this play, without those dancers, the play would be boring. Second, the silent roles (Death and Destiny) cause my imagination, letting me to think widely. Third, the excellent acting of the major actors also attains my attentions, and I like them pretty much. All in all, I like this musical pretty much.

I think they all did a very great job. Their emotion, facial expression, and acting were all attractive. Because of french, I could easily get into the situation. Due to its well-known and sad, people who have watched or read are touched by its plot. when it becomes a musical, we can directly catch what they want to express to their audience through their body or others emotion. All in all, that's really great and worth to watch it again. Thank for your sharing.

I think this musical has won the audience hearts for that it conveys a strong messege of "love" via the characters' beautiful and touching voices, body languages, and remendous background music. Especially, France is known as the nation of Love; frechmen are well-known as romantic creatures; therefore, this musical is better enough for the French to play. With their exaggerating actions presented on stage rather than the that on TV, we tend to be drawn attention to the plots. i think that the Destiny/Death plays an important role in the musical that she truly leads us to the world of intangibility yet wonderment.

(1) Compared to the movies, this French musical did give me a journey to those characters’ inner world. Through singing of great quality and dancing of delicate action, the characters fully conveyed their emotion to the audience so that audience could fully understand them. Unlike movies, actors mostly expressed their feeling only by telling and saying, neither music nor dancing. The musical has the ultimate attainment in expressing both outer, the plot, and inner, the emotion, of the play.
ReplyDelete(2) I really like the songs and dancing of this musical, especially how the tow main characters, Juliet and Romeo, sang and acted with each other. Through this way, I could strongly feel their love. The most impressive part is the silent roles which made me think that probably part of our life or choices are decided by them. Though I can’t understand the language of this musical, it can still touched the audience and make them understand. That was all because they have very excellent actors.

I think the characters in it perform the opera vividly. Their facial expressions are great. Their singing skills are so spectacular. It really touched me.

To tell the truth, I haven't seen a video like this until this week in this class. I was shocked by the video. The point that impress me most is that everybody can not only sing but dance very well. Their voice are perfect and their steps are beautiful. I can't imagine that they must practice those words and steps for thousands of times. I admire those and I want to be one of them. Also, their songs touch me a lots. It is kind of enjoyment.

(1) When they sing the songs which represent their inner minds, they attract my attention more. I love to sing myself, and I know that singing is a way which can truly reveal one's thoughts and emotion. Therefore, when they are sining, there seems no distance between me and their minds. I feel their feelings; and I sorrow for their sorrow. Their emotions truely touch my heart.
ReplyDelete(2) During the play, of course, their singing impress me most. I especially love the nurse's singing. I was goose-fleshed at that time when listening to her voice. And I loved that. It's the truest expression of a nurse/women to the little girl she has been taken care for so many years. She's so happy for Juliet finds her love, at the same times, worries about their future. Her voices just reveals everything. Though I am not a mother, through her voice, I feel as if I was that nurse and Juliet was really my daughter. How touching. And her facial expressions and body language make this feeling stronger. I'm so impressed...really.
Ann 96540344
I think French musical expresses more details in inner emotions and body language, so the plot of this story is very slower than American musical. There are out of fear to show the sexual implications, and the designs of the roles are very gorgeous. I like the foreshadow in French musical so that I can dip myself into the musical.
ReplyDelete96540307 Millia
It is hard for audience to see the facial expression of those actors on the stage while watching a musical. Therefore, actors have to show their emotions through songs and dances. I think the exploration of the inner world of major characters through songs and dances impressed me a lot. I admit that sometimes I actually had no idea about what their actions represented. However, I can sense the passion, and I was fascinated by it. I could not take my eye off them during the performance because I thought that every moment could be classic. Whenever they started to sing, I lost myself in their beautiful and attractive voice. As vinia said, the characters are charming!

(1) Those actors and actresses do the good job that I’m truly attracted by their songs, dances, and facial expression. But the most special attain in this French musical is the appearance of “goddess of destiny”. When she shows, she is dancing with sneering sights. It’s just like everything is controlled by her, and everyone can’t change his fate. “ Goddess of destiny” is a special character that I had never seen in the musical before. It strongly shows no matter how Romeo and Julia try to get together, they are still the puppets that their lives are already set, and they can’t avoid of this tragedy.
ReplyDelete(2) Well, this is not my first time to see the drama of “Romeo and Julia”. At the beginning, I’m considering that they are the same plots, so the repetition must make me bored. However, when the musical begins, I find I’m wrong. The songs and performance urge my reply of inspiration. I’m so regretful that I had never learned the French. If I had learned it, I must sing with them.

ReplyDeleteWe all know that Frence is one of the most romantic country in the world, so this french virsion's Romeo and Julie is more romantic compare with the original one, and also, the setting of the French virsion is much more luxurious and glorious. Through their beautiful and powerful singing and acting, i think those professional performers have expressed the essence of the story perfectly. When they sing, the song pass through my heart as if i've being in the same situation like them in the story, and i just feel nothing but deeply touched. Especially when the nursing mother is singing, oh, she really has a fine voice and consummate acting skills. I feel like i am Julie's nursing mother too that i can totally understand the complicated feelings that nursing mother has in her heart. What else can I say... You know...So French!!! The perfect example of fate and forbidden love, and the classic master piece of love story!!
1)Although it is an adaptation from an english literature, the French have definitely filled this work with their culture. Along with the language, the body language and the lyrics, they's nothing but all about romance. Furthermore french musical always let the audience rethink and give place for discussion. They take into account the personification the unchangle destiny and also the role of the Nurse.
ReplyDelete2)I am always fond of french musical. I think the french are very good in expressing the extreme emotions: anger and love.(the same in the hunchback of Notre Dame)
And voices of the priest and the Nurse really reach to our soul, very powerful but full with emotion and love.

I just want to offer my appreciation for this wonderful Musical adaption of Romeo & Juliet we saw last week in the class. There performance was really strong. Their dance was marvelous and their voice was very nice and emotional. I think that the players gave a wonderful sense of involvement. There was always balance between actions and it was not easy to know how to single anyone out. I think the actors were very consider and always acting with a big consideration for the audience understanding and for the place. The Nurse Song was unforgettable, and Juliet was very gorgeous.

This musical impresses me very mush. At the beginning, not only the dances but also the singers really make sense. This French musical combines famous drama with touching music. It is very amazing. To my surprise, accompanied the appealing rhythm, I experience the secret feeling between Romeo and Juliet. Indeed, sometimes, we really express both thoughts and feelings through music. In addition, I like kinds of musical, rich in romantic atmosphere and poetic dialogs. Often, it arouses my imagination.

I love it!!!!!!!! Beautifully integrated the play and the music that allows us to enjoy the long-standing romance. Music touches people. By combining music and dances can we appreciate more than we could do on this play especially when we hear the poetic sentences be sung by characters. I think that's also the reason why famous stories such as "Le Miserable" be put into opera.
ReplyDeleteKatie 95540333
I was all tears when the nurse sang! The monologues were all so affectionate that I was completely overwhelmed. Besides the stage arrangement and blocking, the singing and acting particularly aid the emotional outlet of the whole play through which the audience get to experience its immediate shock and thus involved even more. I love the idea of adding the symbolic figure, the goddess of destiny, within and between each curtain that adds a sense of tragic bitterness to the story in some extent. The costume design was also interesting. Mixing and matching traditional outfits with those of modern style connect the Shakespearean time with the present, as if the director was retelling the timeless story.
ReplyDeleteMelissa 95540455
i think the French musical adaption conveys love through their wonderful dance and atrractive voice to the audience. This is what we can not feel in William Shakespeare's original story. And this is the power of musicals. To be honest, I kind of don't know what their actions mean, but I can feel their sorrow through their songs and facial expressions. Both original one and French musical adaption are great.

ReplyDeleteI think the performance of the musical adaption is more difficult then the movie. The musical actors presented their feelings, emotions in front of the audience. Of course, this French musical is very good. The actors' facial expression, gestures and the way they showed their emotions are very moving. And through the performance on stage, the audience can stronly feel the emotions as the actors with touching music. We can feel more through the musical adaption.

This French musical adaptation provided a different interpretation of the play and explored our inner world through touching melodies, lyrics, acting, and body language. They meticulously arranged the whole settings to enable audiences to experience the messages they wanted to convey. That’s why I feel like as if I was the character in the play and I was into their situation. And maybe that’s the way French articulates their emotion. I think music or melodies truly can interpret our feelings, and maybe it’s the better choice of interpretation for this emotional and heart-wrenching play, better than acting. Music speaks into our heart and stirs our feeling more significantly. On the other hand, they add the new character “fate” to play out the feeling of the character, which we can understand more easily. Although she remained silent throughout the musical, she had omnipresent power that she seemed to be around us all the time. I was overwhelmingly impressed by the moving songs and vivid interpretation of the characters. The songs seemed to be created just for them, and the whole setting is just marvelously fit to the play that if there are anything being added or left, it won’t be that perfect.

ReplyDeleteComparing to movies or novels, this Franch musical adaption conveys the whole story by beautiful voice and body language. They express their emotion just on a stage and it can still be touching. Well, I don't reay like musical videos, but this one changes my stereotype of musical videos. I love it!! Especially those songs they sang.
ReplyDelete(1)I think through the different music and lines every character have, we know more about their inner mind. Besides, when seeing their performance, you might have a desire to sing and dance with them.
ReplyDelete(2) In this musical, I enjoy quite much on the enchantung music. Especially, I am studying French now, so I also feel excited to hear those familiar words and see how lovely French could be.

First, “If we became people like them, probably my life will be pleasant.” This view to the musical is like a projection; we project our wish in this musical, which makes the musical free and full of imagination. Who would not like a delicately crafted work full of our expectations, isn’t it?
ReplyDeleteSecond, the passions of the characters remind us how life is going to be terrific if we devote ourselves to the people and thins we love. The musical set us free from the daily restriction of our feelings. The characters are all unchained when expressing feelings or anger, while the ordinary are always confined by their condition, background and the expectation from the society. Seeing the roles live their own way free from worry makes us wonder if we could be just like them.
For the musical on one hand projects my desire of being free; on the other hand, the projection is seem down to earth. I think these two causes will be the main reasons of winning my heart.
(2)
Their music and dancing actions appeals to me most. From the very beginning, two “mothers” with excellent voice chanting the hatred between two dominant families, I was deeply impressed. Never had I dreamed the negative sentiments could be beautifully sang and rhetorically decorated. Even though I can’t understand French, their facial expression combining with the exaggerate dancing clearly stated the actors emotions. The emotions carried out perfectly.

(1) We’ve watched two different performance genres of the play Romeo and Juliet. One is the movie and the other one is the musical. I preferred the musical more because of the songs and the movements. In the musical, the performers not only act their characters out, but also sing and make movements to show their emotion and passion. This requires more highly skilled performers than actors. But I don’t understand why there is this character representing the Death. Does this only appear in this musical? I think I’ve seen this kind of character in some other plays, but I forgot what the play is. In France, the audience is so passionate about the musical. They can sing along with them in the end. This is very different from Taiwanese people. I had an experience of going to the National Theater watching The Phantom of the Opera. In the end of the play, everyone just stood up and gave the performers big applause. No one will go to the front of the stage. No encore songs. When I saw the ending of this musical, I feel that this is really a successful play. Every audience came to the front of the stage and they sang with the encore songs. I was impressed by this and also wondering why they can memorize the lyrics so fast.
ReplyDelete(2) I really love those songs in the musical. Actually, after going home we download the musical’s original sound track. Although I can’t read French, the songs are just attracting me because I can feel there are those singers’ emotions in the songs. When they sing it, they not just read out loud the lyrics but also put their feelings in to it.

ReplyDeleteI was amazed by this musical about Romeo and Juliet. We saw a movie about Romeo and Juliet, too. The musical impressed me more because of the singing and dancing of the performers. Their singings were very powerful; their dancing was very passionate. That’s why this French musical attracts me.

I like the songs in the musical very much. They are attractive because they are not only powerful but also charming. The performers enjoy themselves when they are acting. Everyone plays their roles vividly. I think it is a successful musical.

Romeo and Juliet is adapted to many different versions. However, I think the musical version is really a classic one. The music and dance are beautiful. Actors and actresses can interact with audience more because the show is right in front of the audience. Besides, I think French is a really beautiful language. Singing songs in French makes the whole musical more romantic and emotional. Through different intensity of music and dancing, audience’ feeling rises and falls with them. This musical is like a magic which controls the audience’s emotion.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the actor is not as handsome as Leonardo, I still like this version very much. I think it is going to be a boring musical originally, but I am wrong. I like the song and plots. I have listened every song in the sound track already. Some of them become my playlist in my MP3 player. I don’t know French, I still like it. Therefore, you can know how influential the songs in the musical are.

I love the French version, not just for the music they played, but for the real emotion between Romeo and Juillet. I remembered vividly one scene: Romeo and Juillet were ready to get married singing the song "
ReplyDeleteaimer. When singing, Romeo looked like he got everything, he won the most precious thing in the world. What I saw on his face was the pride, the pride to own Juillet, which attracted me most. They acted so natural, so natural that I, as the audience can feel something, their love, their power of voice. After I saw this musical, I wish I got a ticket and rushed into the theatre immediately.

1. after wathing this musical performance, it's hard to believe that their are so good at what they do, the sounds, moves, gesture, interacts are so sensational, i think french people is a really prudent race, their lyrics and details are oughtlly concise, it trully impacts me of the old fashion of music opera, and in the end they had breakdance performer, that amazed me the most. I think some of them are professional dancers and singer, that's how them perform so well. Their charm on stage is one thing definately like to learn from them!

ReplyDelete1. To be honest, I understood neither the French songs nor the Chinese subtitles very well. However, I could understand what theme they were singing through their body languages in that case their dance and through their facial expressions and the music. I think this musical adaptation will attract the audience’s attention more than the movies we saw because there are high and low notes in music and singing which make the audience really feel and involve the emotions deep inside the character’s inner world not only through perceiving the character’s performances but also through listening and feeling the sounds and voices they produced.
ReplyDelete2. Since I could not understand both French and Chinese, but I still got the main focus of most of the acts, then what appealed to me most were both the characters body languages and facial expressions and all the songs as well especially the one which was sang and acted by the nurse. She performed sensationally; I could thoroughly feel her strong love and worry for Juliet.

ReplyDeleteDuring the play,I really had a wonderful time. Although I don't know much about French,it was still amazing to me. Those acters gave us the best connection with the story, and I believed that everyone would relate ourselves to the play. That was really unforgetable, especially the songs they sang, totally great! I wish I could have that kind of voice too. When they were acting,I could see the pain and love in their movements. The play really touched me.

ReplyDeleteIn the movie version, the plot keeps going and the actors keep talking. Audience has little time to feel the emotion. While for the musical adaptation, although everything is also progressing without stop, we can feel the emotion at this time because it keeps emphasizing the same feeling with the same words and phrases. What’s more, the emotion is stressed higher and higher. What we are watching in the musical is not just only the plot anymore, but the feeling. Because we can feel what the actors feel, it seems that we become the roles in the play. And that is why it touches people.
(2)
Although it has been good enough to watch it from DVD, it just seems that it lacks something. I think only when we watch it on the spot can we really feel the power of the musical. Like the way that they change their scene. From the video, we may feel it is easy and natural, while if we are on the spot, we will think that is so magnificent.
The songs in the performance appeal me the most. The reason why it is fascinated is because we don’t even have to understand the words they are singing. From the facial expression, the body language, and the most important one, the intonation with their excellent voice and singing skill, we can totally feel the emotion that they want to convey. When I am watching them singing, it seems that they have take me into a world that I can totally enjoy myself in their performance and nobody is going to or can bother me.

Can't believe i missed the section for this musical! i love it so much! i watched it on my high school music class years ago. i stiil remember how my classmates screamed when Romeo showed up with that pretty face & body and how we leaned together crying along the music. btw, romeo is soooo much sexyer than juliet!
ReplyDeleteIt's special that in this musical red and blue are used on light and costume to make it easier for audience to apparently tell the difference between the Capulet and the Montague.
ReplyDeleteBesides, songs with beautiful melody and lyrics always strike a chord with people. In the musical, the song that I love the most is "Aimer." It sounds soft and dreamy. I am entranced with the song and can't control myself and just keep listening to it again and again. :)
Different from the movie and drama, I like the musical way to tell the story of Juliet and Romeo. French is a language with deep emotion to affect people’s feeling. This musical has great rhythm with great language. Besides, the great action movements in the performance really win audiences heart.
ReplyDeleteI was touched by their music, and I even asked friends for the music. The body movements and facial expressions are still vividly in my mind. Bravo!

Compare with 2 movies we watched before. I think this edition focus more on the emotion side. For instance, there is one scene which is Juliet's father's solo. This scene is only in the opera edition. This scene show us what parents feel about what Romeo n Juliet did. I believe this is why this opera is so popular, because those 2 movies we watched before are all focus on Romeo n Juilet.
ReplyDeleteI think the singers in the musical sing beautifully. I am so touched. This musical really impresses me.

Musical adaptation describes Romeo and Juliet’s love in a fantastic way. People always say French is the best romantic language in the world, and French are charming. Because of this embedded image of French, the adaptation attains the best consequence that people love this musical so much. Needless to say, actors and actresses are the most important part in the musical. Without their effort, I don’t think this musical will become so successful.
ReplyDeleteThis musical impressed me a lot because of its excellent rhythm and good lyrics to illustrate the classical plot about Romeo and Juliet. At the first scene, the first character that I saw is the god of fate. Actually, I had no idea about who she is. After Vinia told me that, and I got it, realized what it really mean after watching this whole movie. I think it was the part which impressed me much. It also conveyed us that their fate was up to the god; it seemed it hard to change their fate by themselves, because they have to take care of their family. The fate was always around them, but they couldn’t change it. As Professor Vinia said French is the language for singing. I agree with Vinia. Their songs are so beautiful that I want to hear again and again. I like their way to show how they love each other. It was different with the others. I like this musical.

ReplyDeleteIn addition to the tremendous popularity worldwide, the musical also does a great work at art. They combine the art performance of songs, dance and acting on the stage. These are three different types of performance, and the actors have to perform the show on the spot. Unlike the movies, they have to conquer the stage fright and bring down any mistakes while the show is going. Hence, I appreciate the musical work much more than other kinds of presenting works. As for the songs in the musical, singing them out could express the emotion of characters even more. They could louden the voice to show their anger, sings songs sadly to express the sorrow, or dance happily to show their joy. These ways help the actors present the play vividly. Also, music is one of the best ways to touch the audience’s heart, so we could get ourselves into the story deeply by this kind of sense stimulation.

This version is so different from the movie one and the play one. In the three versions, I like the musical one the best. Through the songs and dances, we enjoy the romance both visual and hearing. What’s more, every actor in the musical is so great. I did enjoy their wonderful voices and dances. I like it very much.

(1) Except for the popularity, this musical attains its art performance to the highest level. The songs and dances are just so good, especially the fantastic songs! They really give a strong impact on people’s mind when people are listening to and also viewing this musical.
ReplyDelete(2) I love the melodies and the way the character Destiny performs. The songs in this musical is so touched although we don’t understand the language, the melodies still affect my mind deeply. At first, I don’t like the character Destiny but I changed my opinion toward her after the teacher explained what she symbolizes. In this musical the character Destiny is invisible to people through the interaction between other characters and Destiny the director might want to show us how God plays trick on people’s fates. It’s really a pity that this character has been cancelled.

The musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is wonderful because every one have to sing and plat in here. The Romeo is most hansoms and the Juliet has most real performed in this musical play. And their songs are so beautiful and romantic, which attracts every audience. Compare to the movie, I can more feel the power of love and the movements of every person in this musical.

The strong feelings and emotions were i felt after i watched the musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Because it's not a movie, they have to exaggerate the gesture, voice, and facial expression. We could easy to know what the character wanted to say. They copied the dress from the book so that we could really in the story.
ReplyDeletei think the difference between mucial and movie is that muscial used songs to express the feelings and movie just use actor's lines. Beautiful songs and voices are easy to connect with audience and actors, and we won't care about the actors' apparence. Though this musical that professor played to us; i think i will pay money to watch musicals.

(1) Sorry for coming so late! The musical adaptation delivers the story to the audience in a very different way. Through actor and actress’ elegant dances and meaningful voices, the musical interpreted the R&J from an entire new angle. Silence spoke thousand lines in it. Happiness was acted out. In this way, we can catch the plot easily. In addition to that, the actor who played as Romeo is really awesome and attractive.
ReplyDelete(2) what appeals me? The dance, the song and the characters of course! How amazing those characters are. Under the stage pressure, the only way to perfection is acting real. They are acting themselves on there. It’s true them, it’s real!
in addition, I really enjoy reading everyone's comment.

It is extremely amazing to make such a popular opera into this brand new way. This is my first time seeing this kind of opera in French.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what to say, it' all about LOVE! even the music, the dance, the character in the movie, it's all about love.

Songs are major souls in musicals. With great songs and singers, one musical can reach much effect towards the audience. The audience’s emotions can be affected easily. It is hard for the audience to see the actors’ facial expressions from the distance, so dances assist the actors to convey their emotions and thoughts. This French musical adaptation had led the audience into the characters’ mind and thoughts through their performance. The big projection of the death/destiny reinforced her performance and intensified the power to lead every character’s destiny. Another special effect which it attained might be that people might be interested in learning French after hearing the beautiful songs. I like listening to the actors singing. The magnificent melody and the characters’ voices appeal to me a lot.

I think this version is easier for me to understand because there's no ancient wording in English,it's French though. And of course through elegant French, Juliet & Romeo becomes super romantic.Just like most fellow classmates mentioned, the music, the song, the singers are all stunning. Besides, I think the fate goddess makes the musical special, though it seems that there's no line for her;it's like an abstract representation.

We have seen many versions of Romeo and Juliet. Although the musical version is not my favorite one, its music really attracts me. I don’t understand French, but it’s a special experience to watch the version. I think Juliet is like an Angel who speaks a kind of language which I don’t understand. Her songs are from the heaven. She is the angel who is punished by the god to experience the human’s world. It’s always sorrowful to see the ending of Romeo and Juliet, but the ending is the better one. Since that they can’t get together in the human’s world, maybe they will be together in heaven.

I think the musical version of Romeo and Juliet is fantastic. I especially love the songs in this play. Even though I don't know how to speak French, I can feel the feeling that the actors and actresses try to convey. In fact, I downloaded some of the songs after watching it. In fact, Besides, I used not to think that French is the most beautiful language of the world. After watching this play, the songs also made me realize how graceful French is.

I have seen various versions of Romeo and Juliet. This is the most special one for me. This version contains many dances and songs which make me deeply fell in to the story plot. The performers in this musical adaptation show their silent body movements and vivid facial expressions to make this performance perfect.
ReplyDeleteI really like their songs, especially the song “Aimer.” It is so romantic and beautiful. And their voices and body language can easily translate the meaning of the lyrics. They have passion for their performance, so I think that is one of the points to make the musical so success.
